Measuring

What we measure

We measure various things including:

- Cloud cover                      - Types of clouds                  - Air temperature

- Soil temperature              - Number of contrails           - Types of contrails

- Rainfall                              - Wind speed                          - Wind direction

- Air pressure

How it works

Once the GLOBE Programme at ISH had only just begun, we used different equipment for each of the measurements listed above. However, now that our team has grown, we have a professional measuring device which takes all measurements in one go and displays them on a screen. This has made our data collecting process much more efficient, allowing us to measure more often.

And now what?

Once we have collected all of our data, the last step is to upload it to the official GLOBE website so that it can be used be other schools as well as NASA to discover patterns and changes in the environment.

The ISH GLOBE Team was founded during the academic year of 2013-2014. Back then, the students were involved in taking weather measurements and uploading them to the official GLOBE website to be used by other schools around the world as well as NASA. However, now the GLOBE Program at ISH has blossomed into so much more than measuring! Now, we work on a variety of projects each year which aim to help our school, the community and our own lives become more sustainable. Therefore, all of the activities we do our planned to benefit the environment.
